The number of solicitors had gotten out of hand. I made a pact with my neighbors that we'll ask any solicitors to show their permit, which is required. We also warn each other if there is someone going through the neighborhood. They never have a permit. It's tolerable now.I don't even bother going to the door if my Ring shows someone that I don't recognize, particularly if they look like a salesperson (polo or other company shirt, holding a tablet/clipboard, often with a backpack full of stuff). If they insistently knock after ringing the bell, I might ask through the Ring what they want. Usually it's just a pushy salesperson, but on the off chance the roof is on fire or something like that, I can at least determine that through the Ring without opening the door. And at this point, I pulled out, said an insistent bye-bye, and shut the door. Conversation is on my Ring doorbell, and I was able to look up his solar company - very nice website, looks like it operates in many states, yada.
