They definitely implied it. If I remember correctly, when they launched Investor, it became the default view and you had to switch to see the legacy view. Then after complaints, they restored the ability to access the legacy view directly, put a link at the top to switch to or “try” advisor and sent out a survey.Didn't Morningstar threaten to terminate the PM for non subscribers a couple years ago, but never acted?I am also still using the Legacy Portfolio Manager. I am not opposed to something different but when I tried the new Investor interface, there were some obvious things missing that I rely on in my custom Portfolio view. I told them as much when feedback was requested and I am at least happy to see that they seemed to listen and realized more work was needed.
This new announcement will probably trigger a new round of termination threats for non subscribers,
I responded to the survey; my biggest complaint was that while Advisor allowed you to customize the view and included all manner of arcane columns to select from, very basic ones like “YTD Return” or “% of Total Portfolio” were not available. I said in the survey that I was open to the new Advisor tool, but not in its current state and if forced to use it in place of the legacy portfolio tool, I’d likely have to find something different (and discontinue my premium membership).
At some point, they removed the Advisor link completely from the legacy view, sent out an email thanking people for the feedback, and said the legacy tool would continue to be available until sufficient functionality was built into Advisor.
In the announcement and links they sent out for the launch this Tuesday, they clearly showed that the legacy tool would be available and demonstrated how to toggle that view on and off, so I think they got the message from the previous missteps.
I only use the web view; I tried the app a few years ago but it didn’t provide sufficient functionality for me so I removed it and never tried it again.
