Personal Investments • Fidelity Zero Fee Fund vs VOO with stock lending at Fidelity

There isn't much data available, but if you backtest both VOO and the corresponding Fidelity Zero Fund for US large cap you get an infinitesimally higher yield with FNILX. We're talking a hundredth of a percentage point CAGR more.
I am not a huge fan of back testing. Can you tell me why one fund had a higher return rather than another? Was it pure luck? Or is there some factor such as better index construction or better operational execution? If so, will these factors hold in the future.

But I think my point is just reinforcing your point.
