I look at randomness in a very holistic way. look at your life events. how predictable were they? how much of a role did chance, fate, kismet etc play in the biggest decisions of your life?
I married my wife in part because I met her at law school. best decision ever. but the decision to go to that law school, and not the other one, was a flip of the coin. heads I won because I met my wife.
it was totally random that I met her...but not random that I decided I wanted to get to know her.
now go to the investment field. many events are random because political/economic etc events are remarkably random.
it is not whether events affecting investment prices are random, but what you do as an investor in light of the occurrence of those events that matters. your reactions need not be random
