Here's a bit of an update.. about 3 1/2 years later.

Age: 40
Single/no kids
Living expenses: Around 28k/yr – Total - went up a bit just like with everything else
Base Salary: 60k
Location: IL
Tax Rate: ???
Emergency fund: yes – 6 months of expenses (around 14k)
HSA: Treated like an investment account. Using funds to pay medical expenses when in retirement.

401k Contribution: 18% / wk - increased from 15%


401k – 172k
- 157k – VFIAX – (90%) Vanguard 500 Index
- 15k – VBILX – (10%) Vangaurd Intermediate Bond
- 172k - Total

Work HSA – 11.5k (Using just to get company match)
- 10.5k – VFIAX – Vanguard 500 index
- 1k – Cash

Roth IRA – 58k (100% FSKAX – Fidelity Total Market)

Fidelity HSA – 4.5k (100% FZROX – Fidelity Zero Total market)


Total – 247k

I guess the biggest wild cards are if I stay single, how soon I can pay my mortgage off, and how much medical / insurance would be.
I understand the reasoning to pull money out of my Roth to live off of to max my 401k match but I couldn't commit myself to do that yet. Maybe I'll change my mind at some point but until then, any other suggestions?
