Thanks Ron Ronnerson. I have enjoyed your posts over the years and learned a lot from you. You definitely have a great understanding of the CALSTRS system. We are still trying to figure out all the options we have.I’m a CalSTRS member, turning 50 this year. My wife is the same age as me. I plan to choose the 100% option when I become eligible.
I just wanted to mention a couple of things. First, while there is not a true COLA under CalSTRS, the annual benefit adjustment coupled with the purchasing power protection provision, taken together, begin to approximate the effects of an actual COLA.
Secondly, in case it’s helpful to your decision, the median life expectancy of a female CalSTRS member is about 91 and CalSTRS projects it to increase to 93 by the 2040s.
