splat789,Unemployed workers during the GFC were able to claim up to 99 weeks of unemployment benefits, and up to 79 weeks during the COVID pandemic. A person could have easily lasted about 4-5 years with a 2-3 year emergency fund, so how much longer than that could possibly be needed to find another job?
How does someone know how long that they will be unemployed?

1) How many people that you know keep 2 to 3 years of emergency fund? As far as I know, I am the only one among my peers.
2) By the way, Telecom Bust was around 2000 to 2002. Then, after that, you get GFC in 2008/2009. The 99 weeks of benefits did not apply to Telecom Bust folks.
