$100/month is cheap, but that's still $1200/year.
If I can get a set up that reduces that to near 0 for half of the year, that's $600/year returns
If I get get that for $15000 investment, that's $600/$15000, or 4% a year, tax free (or >5% tax equivalent) which is probably better than I'll get from cash for the next 15 years, and partial 'electricity inflation' protection.
It also has appeal to me from a The Big One earthquake protection and retirement planning.
The cash example has the cash returns plus the original investment.
You need about 10% per year to be competitive.
Also, why do you think it only pays for 15 years?
