At your level of assets, assuming you plan to die in Massachusetts, I think this should be your overriding concern. What tax brackets are your heirs in? If they are in the 37% (soon to be 39.6%) bracket, it probably makes sense to convert up at least through the 32% bracket right now.Other beneifts: Roth conversion will reduce the amount subject to potential MA estate taxes by the taxes paid. Heirs get to spend 100% of a Roth but must pay income tax on a tIRA.
