I read The Memories of Stockholm Sven last summer and absolutely loved it. Technically it mostly takes place in the Arctic, but it's close!
It's historical fiction. The writing was absolutely beautiful, it was a great adventure story and the characters were wonderful. Distilled down, it is a story about isolation... But it's amazing how much the writer achieves even while the main character goes years without seeing another person.
