Isn't any ESG fund by definition "active?" Someone has to grade the company on ESG metrics which are arbitrarily selected.
Yes it’s very active by definition.
I wouldn't consider it active at all. In my mind, active management is when the fund is making trades to try and beat the market. This is basically just an index fund that has an additional screen to exclude certain criteria. In other words it follows an index, but it's an ESG index. Just like an SP 500 index has a screen to exclude small cap stocks.
