100% agree, as someone who is in the same stage in this process, I could not have laid out the issues better than this post and the following post. When I'm traveling abroad, I don't want to rely on my phone always having a good signal, so I can log in and unlock the card. I also think that's probably when I'm most likely to get robbed or something. I also really don't like accessing financial institutions from my phone, which I consider to be its own security risk. At home it wouldn't be that big of a deal if I couldn't unlock the card. In any case, there is still some chance the card could get stolen in the window when its unlocked and then the totally insecure purchase functionality of the card would still be a problem.@cb474, isn't locking and unlocking the debit card instantly in the app or online easier? Do you use the debit card all the time to make that annoying and just want low limits to make it safer since you have it unlocked all the time?
So overall, I find the lock feature to be a very clunky solution to the problem. Whereas if I could just get the purchase limit lowered to zero that would be an elegant solution. It would also be great if a pin code were required for purchases, that would almost entirely solve the problem as well.
By the way cb474, Fidelity called and left a VM, no specifics, but the tone and wording of the message was vague and not good (like a bad call from a doctor’s office) so I suspect Fidelity’s response to me will be the same as you posted upthread.
