My fairly new Fridge does this often. On mine it's caused by cubes getting stuck at the exit of the ice tray that rotates due to freeze up. I have to remove the bin, knock the ice down and I also hit it with the blow dryer (defrost). This has been happening since new, they actually replaced the entire cooling system under warranty but the only fix has been the blow dryer.I also think I should try hitting it with a hair dryer. Will try tomorrow. I am not sure if I can force the arm to dump as you describe. I'll look into it.I have a Kenmore branded LG refrigerator that does the same think periodically, most commonly after we are gone for a few days. The water fill line gets frozen and just needs thawed out. The ice tray will be empty. I thaw it with a hair dryer for 15 minutes to get all the plastic pieces warm. It won’t immediately thaw out but if I button everything up and shut the door, usually within 15 minutes or so I will hear it fill up the tray.
FWIW, my ice maker has the “reset” button out front too. But it you remove the ice bin and feel behind a plastic covered bump, there is another buttOn that forces the ice tray to dump regardless of sensors. I press this to show myself that the tray is working and it is just the fill line that gets frozen up. The reset button won’t do this because it hasn’t tripped the sensor that the ice tray has completed filling.
