Where I live, we have a wonderful 'buy nothing' group, that is a good outlet for things I don't need anymore, as well as a good way to get things I won't need later ;) We've also got an annual community rummage sale, I try to save things that I don't want, but are too valuable to give away directly, and donate them to the rummage sale: they have a good team to price items, and it's well attended, so I think the community will get a good value from it; when I decide I'm done with my Apple II, it'll go there and I'm pretty sure someone will be happy to have it. I worry about donating some of my older electronics to a general thrift store, I think it might be tossed as e-waste if they don't have the clientele that appreciates it.
