Personal Consumer Issues • Risk of using auto pay?

For my regular c.c. online payments, I use virtual c.c. (one for each vendor). I turn them on a couple of days before they are all due and then turn off right after the charge has been done. For those not accepting c.c., I have 1 checking account which I only keep $300-$400 in and transfer money in when paying from there.

The c.c. is done through Capital One and so far has worked well. Once I turn it off, no one can use it. When turned on, only that merchant/vendor can use it.
sounds like a lot of work. If I had used this, my electric bill would not have been paid in January.
