And in this case, the name is "Vanguard Total Bond Market Index Fund," which is a reasonable description.

It is not called the "Vanguard Intermediate-term Bond Index Fund," which also exists, and is of course a different fund.

The Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund is large-cap on average, but it does not contain only large-caps.
