I like my prior employers 401(k) and the Stable Value option that I can't get outside. I also transfer annual the amount I need to withdraw or convert to a Roth.
I told DW to NEVER withdraw from the 401(k), only request a rollover. The reason is for how MAGI is calculated in the state and the effect on my property taxes. This process currently saves me $5k annually until we start to collect Social Security at age 70. When RMD start at 73, I'll then rollover the balance to keep the state credit.
