I am assuming that they are offering you a credit towards a future flight, and that you prefer a cash refund. Is that the situation? If so, you may not win this argument.
The combination of Swiss and Qatar flights seems like an odd one to me, as those two airlines are not partners. I suspect this was a flight combination put together by a travel agent. That complicates things.
I would also like OP to confirm that his trip would have originated in the US.
