Another point often not articulated is that most MA plans have low co-pays for wide range of services (often $0 for a PCP visit) but if not subsidized as an employer retirement benefit or with a publicly funded low income subsidy, will function like high deductible insurance with respect to hospital care and major outpatient care such as chemotherapy. The maximum out of pocket cost on top of part B premiums (MA premiums plus MA out-of-pocket max copay+coinsurance) will generally be in the $4500-5000 range.
MA premiums generally (always?) are not age based. However, people usually need more care as they age, so instead of attained age pricing of premiums, MA plans have costs that are de facto priced by "attained health status" via the out-of-pocket max cost level.
