Personal Consumer Issues • What to do if I am subpoenaed as a witness but I have overseas travel plans

Thanks everyone, I am still anxious about things. But it helps to know some of you know that things can be worked out. I don't mean to sound selfish, but I don't want to miss my trip/be punished for, essentially, doing the right thing when I saw bad accident.
I take it that YOU have a license and that one of the other parties did not.

These subpoenas are extremely common. They want your statement on what you saw. You're not on trial.

I can only say from my and may family's experiences with these things, but the dates for your appearance can be very flexible. You probably got a subpoena for a deposition which can usually be done on a date which suits you. I would be exceptionally surprised if it impacted your travel plans.
You're nowhere near a trial date since the accident just occurred (and it may not even go trial).
Sorry if I wasn't clear, yes, I have a valid license and I wasn't in or part of the accident aside from being a witness, helping the drivers until the first responders arrived, and then I helped the first responders by giving the paramedics information about one of the drivers (he was unconscious at first) and giving a statement to the police.
