I found some old US savings bonds the other day. I looked up their value on treasurydirect.gov, and they're returns are very unimpressive. They're all $100 series EE bonds, and the earliest one is from Dec. 1995. That one is now worth $116.76. In a 28 years+ timesapn, it only earned $66.16 in interest? I got these as succesive xmas presents from Dec.1995 - Dec.1998 (thanks Grandma).
I tried looking up their future value, but treasurydirectory could only give me the value out till 05/2024. The interest rates range from 3.58 to 3.79. Are these worth hanging onto until maturity, or should I just cash these in and invest the money? How can one determine what their values should be at the maturity date (i.e., Dec. 2025)?
