The only time we'd buy more complete coverage is for expensive trips to exotic places with substandard medical care (most of Africa and remote places in S. America and Asia). For that, I like World Nomads.
NYCaviator,

World Nomads is available only below age 70, but does not cover pre-existing conditions!! ....any comments? How do you handle this?

(For age above 70, they direct you to the Silver Nomads through another company. Silver Nomads covers pre-existing confitions.)

This thread is 2 years old, and a LOT has changed during that time.

What question is of interest *now*?
MedJetAssist will - I *think* - cover pre-existing conditions, but they do medical underwriting for those at least 75. at least to some extent.

It may be more vigorous vetting if there are some flags raised at the first view, but we were pleasantly surprised that what I'd call "regular meds/conditions of people who are in their 70's/etc., are not automatically disqualifying. Indeed, they didn't even request medical records.
(By "regular", I mean things like high BP meds or cholesterol meds, etc., plus a letter from the physician about overall health.)

But MJA doesn't do any type of "rescue"; the client/patient must be an INpatient at a hospital, and one where there is reasonable access for fixed wing aircraft.
I forget if World Nomads is one group that does more of the "rescue" work...?

The recommendations and choice of travel insurance with regards to medical emergencies depends upon what situations one thinks might occur. The medical events may be less foreseeable, but the locations are probably better known when planning the trip.
