Now that TIPS are heating up (~2% real), it is making 2024 I-bonds seem less attractive.
My plan was to wait until late April to see what the new fixed rate would be for I-bonds before deciding between I-bonds and TIPS.

Is there much chance at this point that the May I-bond fixed rate will exceed 1.3%?

We won't know the new fixed rate until May 1. We'll know the variable rate in April.

Tipswatch thinks the fixed rate could remain the same, with an outside chance of an increase. The variable rate is likely to go down, so the composite rate could very well fall below 4%.
